The Train

after Fernando Pessoa

The poet tells lies.
He tells so many lies,
He even fibs about the pain
He is suffering.

And his readers
Feel whilst reading
Not his pain (doubled)
But theirs, fictional.

So on its track
The train goes round and round
Detonating reason
The little train we call the heart
