Will You Make Our Ship Go?

“We Look for Things That Make Us Go,” Star Trek: The Next Generation, Season 3, Episode 17

We looked for things that made us go
but didn’t know how or where to start –
we are far from home

and now we’re tired of being alone.
Steps took are outlined on this chart:
we looked for things that made us go

back to our planet to a time long ago
to work things out, to do our part.
         We are far from home.

We didn’t listen, we made no bones,
left footprints sooting sky as if some art.
We looked for things to make us go.

The Terran sky was lazuline blue, so
beautiful; if we only had a heart
we wouldn’t be so far from home.

This place is a less forgiving biome.
We thought we were so smart.
We look for things that make us go...
we are far from home, so far from home.
